Moving a dog or cat from New Zealand to Australia  – information you will need.

To bring our cat with us it cost us –

  • $1205NZD (airfare, handling, vet check, microchip insertion) plus,
  • $150NZD for Australian importatin checks, customer broker (once arrived in Australia).

The above prices could be massaged a little if your pet already has a microchip for example. You can also get pickup and drop off service from home but this significantly increases the cost.

Pets must be 8 weeks or older at the time of the export certificate being issued.

If dogs have travelled from Australia in the past they will require the biosecurity clearance certificate from when they arrived in NZ.

If dogs have traveled to NZ from other countries other than Australia then a blood test is required in NZ which can take up to 2 weeks to come back. Your pet must resided in New Zealand for the 90 days prior to the scheduled date of export, and not be under any quarantine restrictions at the time of export.  The tests required are for Ehrlichia canis and Leishmania infantum. The blood test can only be done after the dog has been resident in NZ for at least 21 days prior to the test being done. If dogs have come from Africa an additional treatment will be required.
